MK Marlow Company is proud to announce that our work on the Moody Center in Austin, Texas has been awarded a 2022 Excellence in Construction Award for ABC Central Texas. This Merit Award is the first in this market for MK Marlow and we were excited to celebrate this significant achievement with other industry leaders at the Excellence in Construction Awards gala.
Thrilled to partner with general contractor, AECOM Hunt, MK Marlow provided the interior and exterior framing, gypsum wall assemblies, and cold-formed metal framing, including the full interior and exterior upper concourse CFMF support for the Prodema soffit panels.
The 70,000 square foot outside canopy’s framing was also part of MK Marlow’s scope of work. The framing support for the Parlex Prodema included over 200,000 lineal feet of structural framing and over 200,000 lineal feet of Armstrong drywall grid. The interior drywall grid radius had to be fabricated in the field using over 50,000 radius clips.
Another striking part of the building design is a 360-degree glass curtain wall that surrounds the entire building. The transparency of the glass provides a visual effect, bringing the outside in and inviting onlookers to view artwork and festivities inside the center. MK Marlow provided the vital cold form metal framing structural supports for the Armstrong drywall grid which attaches this incredible glass curtain wall, allowing the entire structure to come together as designed.
Due to the long lead time and precision of so many elements of this project, MK Marlow facilitated a mockup, located on site in the Austin MK Marlow office. A collaboration with AECOM Hunt, Gensler, and MEP trades, a scale model was designed and constructed to use as a real-life application showing how all of the pieces would fit together. This 3D model was an important point of reference for all of the trades to reference in the completion of their particular scopes of work.
